Raheem Sterling spoke of his pride after today’s launch of the official Raheem Sterling Foundation, and revealed how setting up the foundation was every bit as rewarding as all he has achieved on the field with City and England.

Sterling was back at Ark Elvin Academy, his former school in Brent, to help officially launch the Foundation.

The Raheem Sterling Foundation aims to help educate, empower and inspire young people to become better prepared for the future and to embrace opportunities to achieve greater social mobility with its work set to help youngsters in Manchester, London and Jamaica.

After meeting up with pupils at Ark Elvin Academy at Wembley Park, in front of the recently unveiled Olympic Steps that lead to Wembley Stadium, Raheem then moved on to the school for the official launch.

And after speaking in front of an invited audience of pupils and dignitaries, Sterling then spoke about the motivation behind his setting up the Foundation.

An inspirational role model on and off the field, Sterling has drawn widespread praise for his role in helping to try and tackle social injustice.

And he said being given the platform to try and positively affect young people’s lives meant everything to him and his family.

“Yeah, I feel the football side that’s my pride and joy and my every day,” Sterling told mancity.com.

“But I get the most joy in doing stuff like this.

“If it means that I can hopefully help one individual to - if you like - inspire them and give them the motivation (to achieve)… that gives me the most joy.

“I’m very proud to know I’ve actually achieved what I have in football.

“But at the same time (I’m also) trying to be in touch with the reality of what’s going on in everyday society.”
