It was another thriller at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League.

Both City and Real Madrid held the lead before the first leg ended 3-3 to set up a mouth-watering return fixture on Wednesday April 17 at 20:00 (UK).

We take a look at some of the facts and figures from our European clash.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER

Our draw in Madrid was the ninth of the Champions League campaign this season and we’ve scored three goals in every game so far.

It began against Red Star Belgrade back in September 2023 and we’ve continued the sequence home and away against RB Leipzig, Young Boys and FC Copenhagen since.

The last time that Madrid conceded three goals in a Champions League was last season when City won 4-0 in the semi-final second leg at the Etihad.

And the last team to score three goals in 90 minutes at the Bernabeu in Europe was Shahktar Donetsk back in 2020.

QUICK SILVA

City made the perfect start when Bernardo Silva’s clever free-kick caught out Real goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to give us a second minute lead.

Clocked at just 109 seconds, it was the second-quickest ever goal scored by an away side at the Bernabeu in the Champions League after Mario Mandzukic for Juventus in April 2018 (77 seconds).

Kevin De Bruyne holds the record for City’s quickest goal in Europe, ironically also against Real.

The Belgian scored after 93 seconds in our 4-3 victory semi-final first leg at the Etihad in 2022.

No one has scored more goals against Real than Bernardo who now has four in total, including his brilliant double last season, and only has more goals against Watford and Newcastle.

STRIKE ONE

Josko Gvardiol marked a strong performance with his first ever goal for City since his move in the summer.

The Croatian’s thumping strike in the 71st minute from his right foot fired us into the lead.

It was also a landmark goal as he became the first player to score for and against City in the Champions League.

He was on target with a header for RB Leipzig in last season’s last-16 first leg in Germany that finished 1-1.

ON THE RANGE

Phil Foden is having a fabulous season in front of goal with his superb strike against Real his 22nd of the season in all competitions.

That’s already his best ever total in a single campaign and takes his career total to 82 – the same as another Club legend in Yaya Toure.

Many of the Ivorian’s goals were spectacular long range strikes and Foden is also putting together his own showreel of stunners.

He has six goals from outside the box so far this season – more than any player for a Premier League club across all competitions.
