Ruben Dias says City’s engrossing battle for supremacy with Liverpool in both the Premier League and Champions League ‘is what every fan wants’.

The two teams are in the midst of a compelling battle for silverware both domestically and in Europe.

Both sides secured Champions League semi-final first leg victories earlier this week – City beating Real Madrid 4-3 in an Etihad classic and Liverpool overcoming Villarreal 2-0.

Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday’s return to league action which sees City travel to Leeds and Liverpool visit Newcastle, we hold a one-point lead on the Anfield side with just five games remaining.

It’s a situation which has garnered headlines and attention all around the globe.

And for his part, central defender Dias believes it’s something that is only good for the game.

“A rivalry like this is what football needs and what every football fan wants,” Dias declared.

“Just to make the show better and so everyone can just enjoy football the best way possible.

“We are definitely talking about two fantastic teams who are ready to win.

“We are on our side and we are focused on getting what we want. We are focused on winning.”

A big part of City’s success so far this season has again been our superb defensive displays.

Dias and his defensive colleagues currently have the distinction of having conceded the fewest goals in the Premier League, letting in just 21 goals from our 33 games to date.

And ahead of Saturday’s trip to Elland Road, the Portuguese central defender described how the unity and togetherness in the squad were proving fundamental in that mindset.

“I think it is about the way we play and the togetherness we have in our team,” Dias asserted.

“The way we play helps us a lot because whenever we have the ball, the other team doesn’t have it, so we are instantly closer to not conceding any chances.

“Then, after that, it is about the way we all fight for each other, our principles and the way everyone is ready to fight for the guy next to you.

“That is a very special characteristic of our team and it has proven to be decisive in the big occasions.”

City and Liverpool of course are also challenging for the Champions League as well as the domestic title.

It’s made for a thrilling and gruelling end of season run-in with every game carrying special pressure and demands.

But asked if there were any differences between the two competitions, Dias asserted the competitions both carried special demands.

“I think they are just on the same level,” Ruben asserted.

“Winning the Champions League and the Premier League won’t be easy.

“We are very aware and we know that we will definitely need to be at a very high level to just keep performing and to keep the consistency.

“So that by the end we have got all of the decisions in our hands and we are able to do it.”
