The former Barcelona youth product arrived in August 2022 after impressing at Anderlecht under the ex-City captain in Belgium’s Jupiler League.
After his development under Kompany which led to him being named the Club’s player of the season, he jumped at the chance to switch to the Etihad Stadium.
Given the iconic shirt number 21 of his boyhood hero David Silva, Gomez was delighted to make the move and the opportunity to work with Guardiola.
“In Pep Guardiola I have a chance to learn and develop under the most outstanding manager in world football,” he said after his unveiling.
“To be able to be part of this club is a dream come true for me and something any young player would aspire to.
“The number of trophies City have won over the past few years has been incredible and the style of football the team plays under Pep is the most exciting in Europe.
“Playing for and being guided by Pep and his coaches is going to be very special.”
Still 21 when he signed, Kompany told him he would need dedication to succeed but the attacking wing-back or wide midfielder was up for the challenge.
He began with two substitute appearances in comfortable home victories over Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest in August before starting the following month’s away Champions League 4-0 victory at Sevilla.
Gomez contributed the assist for Erling Haaland’s hat-trick goal in the 6-3 Manchester derby victory over United.
That was followed by a starting role in the 5-0 home win over Copenhagen in the Champions League, however, a 30th minute red card in the return game in Denmark was a setback.
But the Spain under-21 international continued to develop on the training pitches and was helped by Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo to settle into the squad.
He would continue make key contributions throughout the season on the way to the Treble.
Among his appearances, Gomez featured in the Champions League second leg against RB Leipzig, started the FA Cup semi-final victory over Sheffield United and the Premier League win over Chelsea on a day of celebration as City collected the trophy for the third season in a row.
That would be his first medal as a City player and adding the FA Cup and Champions League to his collection was beyond his wildest dreams.
But as well as the silverware, Gomez revelled in the chance to improve his game under Guardiola which further helped to make it such a memorable season.
