Available to watch now on CITY+ it offers unique access to a remarkable campaign as we became the first men’s English club to win four successive titles.
Featuring exclusive interviews with Pep Guardiola, Ballon d’Or winner Rodri and club captain Kyle Walker amongst others it offers a remarkable insight into a special season.
To coincide with its release, here’s a taste of some of things to look out for in the documentary.
Great escape
Going to play and then lift the FIFA World Cup came at a perfect time for the players.
After winning the Champions League for the first time, we headed to Saudi Arabia for the competition that features the best team from each continent.
While it gave our rivals a chance to put extra pressure on City by gaining points while we were away, it offered an opportunity for the squad to reset.
“They knew that playing two games, they had the chance to win a trophy that the club has never had,” director of football Txiki Begiristain says.
“Everything was perfect, getting away from the cold winter in Manchester and going there.
“When we play for something, this team shows what they are.”
We need to talk about Kevin
The 2023/24 campaign was a tough one in parts for Kevin De Bruyne after suffering a hamstring injury on the opening day against Burnley.
After surgery, with the cameras catching the sizeable scarring, the Belgian faced a long road back to recovery.
“In this documentary, what is Kevin doing? Oh, he’s moving his toe! Left to right,” he jokes in a rehab session.
The injury was serious with surgeons describing his hamstring as like a ‘wet paper towel’.
But, of course, he would play a big part in the second half of the season and even his first emergence as a non-playing substitute was a special moment.
Then came his and Oscar Bobb’s heroics in the late win at Newcastle, which was a pivotal victory on our way to the title.
“I said to Ruben [Dias], if we can get in touching distance for when Kevin’s back, we know we’ve got it,” says Kyle Walker.
Pain and the glory
As Ferran Soriano says in the documentary, injuries happen and it’s how you deal with them.
On top of Kevin’s setback, Jack Grealish suffered a gruesome dead leg, Erling Haaland had time on the sidelines and Ederson had a shoulder injury.
A brilliant medical team had plenty to deal with to get the players back onto the pitch with each injury unique.
But not every blow gets you sympathy from your team-mates, as Dias found out after a horrible-looking collision with Stefan Ortega in a practice match that left him a black eye and sore ribs.
Rodri joked to him that we were already champions for a fourth time while Grealish says he was a contender for man of the match until he took a dive.
Special Juanma
Pep Guardiola also needed medical treatment on a bad back and took some time away from the first team for surgery.
His assistant Juanma Lillo took control and the cameras capture how his passion and desire for success is just as great.
Broadcaster Gary Lineker, who also appears in Together: 4-In-A-Row, says that you need a big personality to take the reins from Guardiola.
Rodri and Pep agree and talk about what an influential figure he is around the CFA and in the dressing room.
When the team aren’t playing well, he says there can be no excuses and offers a simple solution around the problem.
“Pass, pass, pass, pass, you’ll start feeling better and we’ll all come back here happy,” Lillo tells the players.
Ort to save it
When Son Heung-min raced clear for Tottenham in the penultimate game of the season, the Premier League title was on the line.
Leading 1-0, City had to win to stay ahead in the title race, but after a nasty injury to goalkeeper Ederson following a courageous save, Stefan Ortega Moreno took over.
In the dying minutes, Son was baring down on goal, Guardiola collapsed to the floor, City fans held their breath… and Ortega made a huge save.
The following day, chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak discusses with Erling Haaland, Josko Gvardiol and Nathan Ake their feelings at that moment.
“Why is everyone so surprised that I can save the ball?!” hits back Ortega.
