Team news

Pep Guardiola says some, but not all of Manchester City’s injured players will be able to return.

Nathan Ake, Kevin De Bruyne and Aymeric Laporte all missed the midweek win over Porto, though De Bruyne and Laporte have since returned to training but Guardiola kept his cards close to his chest when asked whether the trio could feature at the London Stadium.

Fernandinho, Benjamin Mendy and Gabriel Jesus will all definitely miss our clash with the Hammers. It was initially feared Ferna would be out for up to six weeks, but Guardiola says the test results suggest he may be back sooner.

The boss also confirmed that whilst Jesus’ injury situation is improving, the striker is yet to resume training with the squad and he remains unsure as to when he will be ready to return.

Last meeting

City returned to winning ways with a comfortable 2-0 victory in February 2020.

The first Premier League winter break allowed batteries to be recharged and aching limbs to be rested ahead of an epic few weeks in the guise of four different competitions in 11 days.

A goal in each half settled this one-sided contest with Rodrigo and Kevin De Bruyne each on the scoresheet.

Form guide

City head into the clash with three wins in our last four games - the most recent our 3-1 Champions League triumph over Porto in our opening 2020/21 clash in Group C.

Since the start of the 2020/21 campaign, Pep Guardiola‘s men have won five, drawn one and lost one.

West Ham have endured an equally mixed start to their campaign with four wins, three losses and a draw in all competitions.

However, the Hammers are unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, having defeated Wolves 4-0 and Leicester 3-0 before clawing back an astonishing late 3-3 draw at Tottenham.

Manager preview:

Pep Guardiola

“The past is the past. We’ve had good results (there) but what we learned from the game against Tottenham and other teams is always West Ham have incredible quality players.

“They played really well at Tottenham - not just in the last minutes.

“At 3-0 down, they showed a lot of personality. They are in good form - a good moment for them.”
