Mahamadou Susoho has been named in City’s senior squad for the first time ahead of Wednesday's Champions League Group G finale away to Red Star Belgrade.

The young holding midfielder is one of three new faces from our Elite Development Squad to join our senior side in Serbia, alongside Max Alleyne and True Grant with Under 21s captain Micah Hamilton also named in the matchday squad.

City have already guaranteed top spot in the group following a 3-2 triumph over RB Leipzig in November, as our defence of Europe’s top prize continues.

A commanding ball-winning midfielder, Spanish born Susoho made the move to City in the summer of 2017 after being discovered playing grass roots football and has impressively progressed through several age groups since then.

A tenacious defensive midfielder with an eye for a pass, Mahamadou’s assertive midfield presence has seen him regularly catch the eye.

His breakthrough campaign at City came during the 2021/22 season when he was a key part of Ben Wilkinson’s Under-18 side that claimed both the regional and national Premier League Under-18 titles in eye-catching fashion.

Mahamadou made 17 appearances in total that campaign with his impact for the City youngsters also seeing him earn international recognition with Spain’s Under-17s and Under-18 sides.

Susoho then progressed through to City’s Elite Development Squad at the start of the 2022/23 season – only for his impact last term to be stymied by injury though he did return at the tail end of the campaign figuring in the last four fixtures as City made it a hat-trick of Premier League 2 titles.

However, fully fit once more, Mahamadou’s quality, assurance and ability to read the game as the protective shield in front of the back line has seen him make a big impact so far this season for Brian Barry-Murphy’s Under-21s.

All told, he had made 12 appearances across PL2, the UEFA Youth League and EFL Trophy, scoring two goals and also providing an assist.

Susoho has also further supplemented his development and learning by training alongside Pep Guardiola’s first team on numerous occasions.

Now, he has the opportunity to gain even more valuable experience with a maiden call-up to the first team squad with the potential to showcase his talents on the senior stage for the first time in tonight’s clash in Serbia.
