Tom Galvez is the latest of our Elite Development Squad to make his senior debut for City during our pre-season tour of the United States.

The full-back was a half-time substitute during City’s final friendly ahead of the 2024/25 season against Chelsea in Columbus, Ohio.

Galvez joined City in 2021 after an impressive spell at Watford’s Academy.

From a young age, the 19-year-old has shown excellent technical ability, composure and determination down the left.

His first season in Manchester saw him total 18 Under-18 Premier League North appearances as well as a handful in Premier League 2.

To complete his maiden campaign in blue, Galvez played the entirety of City’s 2-1 national final win over Southampton to be crowned champions for a second successive campaign and helped City’s EDS become back-to-back champions in Premier League 2.

Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Galvez put pen to paper on a first professional contract with the Club.

And his second campaign continued to go from strength to strength, with 23 appearances for both ages groups and seven goal contributions marking Galvez’s best season with City.

To add to that, he helped the Club achieve a third successive league title in both the Under-18 Premier League and Premier League 2.

It was his consistency, speed, and strong one-v-one defending that earned the then 17-year-old a call-up to Finland’s senior national team; who he is able to represent through his mother’s descent.

His senior debut came in their 2-0 friendly loss to Sweden on 9 January 2023. On 20 November last year, Galvez made his competitive senior international debut in Finland’s 2-1 win over San Marino in a EURO 2024 qualifying match.

Galvez assisted his nation’s second of the match when he set up Pyry Soiri following a darting run into the box which split San Marino’s defence.

The 2023/24 season saw Galvez make the official step up to the EDS squad. He went on to make 18 out of a possible 20 league appearances under Brian Barry-Murphy, highlighting his importance in City’s young team.

To add to that, 14 appearances in the UEFA Youth League over the past two seasons makes Galvez one of the highest-capped Academy players on tour with the first team.

He’ll be looking to extend that number when the 2024/25 season begins.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Tom on his debut for the Club!
