The young goalkeeper is one of three new faces from our Elite Development Squad to join our senior team in Serbia, alongside Max Alleyne and Mahamadou Susoho.
City have already guaranteed top spot in the group following our 3-2 comeback triumph over RB Leipzig in November, as our defence of Europe’s top prize continues.
At 18 years and 45 days, Grant would be the second youngest goalkeeper to play in the Champions League behind Genk’s Maarten Vandevoordt in 2019
The 19-year-old joined the Manchester City Academy in 2018, having previously played in Derby County’s youth ranks.
Four years later, he progressed to our Under-18s squad and featured 13 times for Ben Wilkinson’s side as we claimed the U18 Premier League national title for a record third successive campaign.
He’s now a regular between the sticks for our Elite Development Squad and Under-19s in both Premier League 2 and the UEFA Youth League, making eight appearances so far in all competitions across 2023/24.
As with all of our goalkeepers, Grant is comfortable with the ball at his feet and plays a crucial role in building attacks from deep for Brian Barry-Murphy’s side.
Indeed, of his 252 attempted passes in PL2 this season, the goalkeeper boasts an impressive success rate of 87%.
Grant also comes from a footballing family, as the son of former Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Stoke stopper and current Ipswich Town first team coach, Lee.
As part of Pep Guardiola’s travelling squad for Wednesday’s clash with Red Star, he’ll be hoping to gain valuable experience and showcase his talents on a senior setting for the first time.
