Jack Grealish has promised to thank Pep Guardiola for selecting him for Saturday's 3-0 Premier League victory over Wolves.

The England international grabbed his first goal of the season inside the opening minute to set City on the road to victory at Molineux.

He was in excellent form throughout the game, weaving around defenders and attacking the goal at every opportunity. His impact also left Wolves a man down for almost an hour after defender Nathan Collins’ reckless waist-high challenge on him in the first half.

He has started each of our last three matches since his return from an ankle injury and received vocal praise from his manager on Friday.

On Guardiola‘s attitude towards him, Grealish said: “It’s nice. He’s been great with me, I should thank him because he gave me the chance to play today after my performance on Wednesday, which wasn’t the best.

“I enjoyed that. My goal was a long time coming. My last goal was against West Ham at the back end of last season. And we got a great result against a top team.”

His lack of goals before Saturday had seen our No.10 receive some criticism, prompting the manager to defend him in his press conference on Friday.

However, Grealish understands the concerns of those who believe he hasn’t influenced matches enough since arriving at the Etihad Stadium.

“I should be scoring more and getting more assists,” he said.

“All I can do now is score and get assists. I will always have people talking about me because of the amount I got bought for but if you look throughout my career, I haven’t scored loads. It’s something I want to add to my game and hopefully with this team and in front of these fans I can.”
