Shaun Wright-Phillips and Nedum Onuoha praised City’s professionalism after a battling goalless draw away at FC Copenhagen secured our place in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s side were reduced to 10-men on the half hour after Sergio Gomez had been sent off for a foul following a VAR check.

In an incident-packed first half at the Parken Stadium, City also saw a Rodri goal disallowed by VAR for handball while a Riyad Mahrez penalty was saved.

But despite having to play with 10 men for an hour, City secured a point – and with it a place in the knockout stages for a 10th consecutive season.

And speaking on Tuesday’s latest edition of Matchday Live, Wright-Phillips said the display shone a spotlight on City’s drive and work ethic.

“For me it was a great team performance away from home,” said the former City and England international.

“The team knew what we were up against once we were down to 10 men, and they did the job and came away with a point.”

That was a positive sentiment echoed by fellow Matchday Live special guest Onuoha.

“You’re playing in the Champions League, down to 10 men, away from home against a team with loads of energy but in fairness to City they controlled most of the game,” declared the former City central defender.

“The clean sheet was another bonus given the difficulties that we had.”

With City’s place in the last 16 now secured, the task ow is to try and ensure we finish top of the group ahead of the Germans.

And with our penultimate Group G game taking place later this month at Dortmund’s iconic Signal Iduna Park stadium, City could seal the deal there.

However, Onuoha says City will be well aware of what a tough task that will represent.

“Whether we had qualified or not going to Dortmund was always going to be a tough game over there at that stadium,” the former City centre back added on Tuesday’s Matchday Live.

“Nothing really changes from that standpoint.

“Pep has managed over there, and he understands what it is to play against them while Ilkay Gundogan has played there.

“It’s a big game and there is a bit more nuance to it as it could decide who finishes first or second and I’m sure City will want to finish first.”
