Manchester City’s 2020/21 FA Women’s Super League (WSL) season will begin away to newly promoted Aston Villa, followed by a home game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

City travel to the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground on the weekend of the Sunday 6 September to face last season’s FA Women’s Championship winners in what will be Gareth Taylor’s first competitive match in charge.

We host Brighton at the Academy Stadium the following weekend, on Sunday 13 September.

Dates are subject to change and kick-off times are still to be confirmed, as are the matches selected for TV coverage.

The full 2020/21 fixture list will be released in early September and the new campaign will begin behind closed doors until it is safe for fans to return.

However, supporters will be able to follow all the action on the FA Player, which will once again stream any FA WSL games that are not selected for TV broadcast.

“Fans have had to wait a while to see some live action and being able to announce the first two rounds of fixtures ahead of so many other leagues was something we really pushed for to build up the excitement ahead of the season starting,” said Kelly Simmons, Director of the Women’s Professional Game.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing our players back on the field to show off their talent and showcase the very best of what the Barclays FA Women’s Super League and FA Women’s Championship has to offer.

“My hope is that they will be joined by supporters in our stadiums soon, because fans make the matchday experience even more special.”

Our opening game of the new season will be our first competitive match since the 3-3 draw with Chelsea on 23 February, after which the 2019/20 season ended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We last faced Aston Villa in a December 2018 Continental Cup group stage clash, when Gemma Bonner, Janine Beckie, Jess Park and Lauren Hemp were on target in a 4-0 away win.

It was a similarly impressive result in our more recent fixture with Brighton, who were beaten 5-0 on their visit to the Academy Stadium last season.
