Gareth Taylor preview

The boss revealed in his pre-match press conference that Esme Morgan could make her return from an Achilles injury against the Vixens.

The defender has been sidelined since a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa in January, but has returned to full training.

“Hopefully we get to see Esme this weekend,” Taylor explained.

“She’s very close, I would say. She’s back in training with us, so fingers crossed she’ll be there this weekend.”

Competition format

Should the scores be level after 90 minutes at the Robins High Performance Centre, then an additional half hour of extra time will be played.

If the two sides still can’t be separated at this point, then a penalty shootout will take place to decide which team progresses to the quarter-finals.

Form Guide

City come into the tie in scintillating form, having lost just one of our last 18 matches in all competitions.

We have kept 11 clean sheets during that run, winning 15 times and drawing twice.

It means Gareth Taylor‘s side are just three points from the Barclays Women’s Super League summit.

The hosts boast an equally impressive record of late, losing just once since November.

They are second in the Women’s Championship, level on points with London City but with a game in hand.

Last time out

City entered the most recent international break on the back of a crucial 2-1 WSL win over Arsenal.

In front of over 4,500 supporters at the Academy Stadium, first half goals from Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly set the hosts up for a deserved three points, which saw us leapfrog the Gunners into third.

Our opponents got the better of Lewes in their most recent outing, claiming a 2-0 home win in the Women’s Championship.

Previous meeting

The two sides locked horns in the Continental Cup quarter-finals in January 2023.

Gareth Taylor‘s side came out on top at Ashton Gate, with our 6-0 win seeing us surpass the 700-goal mark as a professional outfit.
