Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw believes Gareth Taylor’s guidance has helped her hit new heights at Manchester City, particularly in 2022/23.

The Jamaican has agreed to a contract extension, committing her future to the Club until 2026.

It comes after the forward grabbed 31 goals in 30 matches across the most recent campaign, a record for our women’s team in all competitions.

And Shaw says that Taylor, as well as his assistant manager and former strike partner Shaun Goater, deserve huge credit for the 26-year-old’s outstanding campaign.

“He’s been great, I have a really good relationship with Gaz,” Bunny said of our manager.

“He challenges me a lot and, as a player, you know that can go either way.

“But I’m always open to learning and improving and I think, this season especially, he’s got me to a next level, so he’s been an important part to what I’ve been able to achieve this season.”

“It’s definitely important [to work with fellow strikers]. With Shaun, we joke around and he’s always wanted me to improve. [He says] ‘yes you’ve done better and great in this action, but you could’ve done better in this’.

“For me, like I said, I’m always open to learn and I’m wanting to improve. I think I’m fortunate enough to have them around me to consistently support me each and every day.”

Shaw also discussed the incredible team spirit that this current City team possess.

The Jamaican believes their close relationship means they’re able to quickly overcome any potential setbacks and band together in tough times.

According to the forward, that collective mentality will serve this young exciting squad well in the years to come as we set our sights on silverware.

She said: “Funnily enough, and I’ve said it before, I think this is the first team I’ve been in where everyone gets along with everyone. I think that’s important for a team.

“As well as when we have difficult moments, we don’t have people pointing fingers at each other.

“Obviously [we] own it individually if we probably make a mistake and we crack on.

“I think having that bond with each other where you can look at someone and say ‘I know you’ve done well but you can do better’ and you take it on the chin and know that person wants the best for me.

“I think that can only improve the squad moving forward.”
