GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the boss said there’s an ‘outside chance’ that Lauren Hemp, Laia Aleixandri and Naomi Layzell could return to the fold against Chelsea.
Hemp missed Tuesday’s 2-0 UEFA Women’s Champions League win over Hammarby with a knee issue and the boss revealed that her condition needed further assessments after that victory.
Aleixandri’s injury, meanwhile, was picked up during the October international break and has ruled her out since then, with Layzell sidelined since our 2-0 win over Barcelona at the Joie Stadium.
But Taylor suggested they could be back in contention heading into this weekend’s encounter.
On Hemp, he said: “We won’t know until tomorrow. There’s a chance she could be so we’re positive at the moment. I spoke to the medical staff today, we had a mixed training practice so a lot of players are still recovering. We’ll find out tomorrow if Lauren can take part.”
On Aleixandri and Layzell, he added: “[They’re] Closer.
“We’ll have to wait until tomorrow to see.
“They’re progressing a lot quicker than we anticipated so there’s an outside chance.”
LAST TIME OUT
Goals from Laura Blindkilde Brown and Aoba Fujino helped us to a 2-0 Champions League win over Hammarby in our previous outing.
After a goalless first half, the England youth international broke the deadlock shortly after the interval and the Japanese forward headed home in the closing stages to extend our advantage.
The triumph means we maintained our 100% record in the European competition so far after three matches.
PREVIOUS MEETING
Our last WSL meeting with Chelsea saw Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s strike earn City a memorable 1-0 win at Kingsmeadow in February.
The Blues took the lead inside 14 minutes when the Jamaican collected Jess Park’s pass and coolly dispatched past Hannah Hampton.
By collecting three points we ended the Londoners’ 33-match unbeaten run at Kingsmeadow at the time.
TV COVERAGE
City’s trip to Chelsea will be broadcast live in the United Kingdom on Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football.
