Andrée Jeglertz press conference
On Wednesday afternoon, the Head Coach addressed the media for the first time ahead of our opening game. He was asked how his squad have faired over the summer and the prospect of facing title contenders Chelsea in the opening game.
“Yeah, the squad is fine, there’ll always be some small issues. We don’t know exactly on some players but in general we’ll have a strong team on the field on Friday,” Jeglertz said.
“[Facing Chelsea] is the biggest opportunity because also coming to face the team that’s been winning the league for some years
“It’s a good hint of where are we. We think that we’re ready and going in and playing that game, for me it’s just a great opportunity to see what level we’re at right now.
“It gives me guidance and the players this is where we are and where we need to improve.
“Yeah, really looking forward to it. It has been an intense five weeks, but we’ve done everything we were supposed to do.
“We’re well prepared and definitely ready for Friday. But at the same time I know it’s a lot of players coming in later, so we’re still building a bit.
“But looking at training today, the players are 100% prepared for the game Friday.”
Previous meeting
The two sides last locked horns in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
It was the final leg of the quarterfinal stage as both teams met each other four times across all competitions in the space of two weeks.
First-half goals from Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez cancelled out City’s 2-0 first leg win at the Joie Stadium as Chelsea advanced after a final score of 3-2 on aggregate.
Last time out
A 5-2 victory at the Joie Stadium last term saw City settle for a fourth place finish in the WSL as we closed the 2024/25 campaign with an entertaining victory.
The visitors took the lead through Ashleigh Weerden, but the Blues responded through a Kerolin Nicoli volley.
Palace regained their lead before the break when Mille Gejl found the net, but City once again pulled level just after the hour mark through Jill Roord.
Soon after we took the lead for the first time when Rebecca Knaak met a Lauren Hemp corner, before Kerolin Nicoli and the German defender both completed a brace to ensure we ended the season on a high.
