Chloe Kelly and substitute debutant Jess Park were both on target with Esme Morgan making her first Lionesses start as England overcame a Japan side featuring City colleague Yui Hasegawa 4-0 in a friendly clash played in Murcia, Spain.

It was a fine all-round display by the European champions with Kelly’s superb second half strike sandwiched between Rachel Daly’s first half opener and fine third goal from Ella Toone.

There was also a late Lionesses debut for Park – currently on loan at Everton – and she rounded off the night with a dream debut strike as Sarina Wiegman’s side impressively brushed aside the Japanese threat.

Kelly produced an eye-catching all-round display while Morgan also acquitted herself with great distinction, playing the full 90 minutes.

And for Park, who came on with two minutes left, her injury time effort made it a real night to remember.

England took the game to the Japanese from the off and deservedly took a 37th minute lead through Aston Villa’s Daly.

Kelly initiated the move with a superb delivery. Nothing originally came of her effort but Beth Mead kept the ball alive and Daly arrived on the edge of the area to fire home a low drive.

Kelly then doubled the Lionesses advantage eight minutes after the restart with a quite brilliant finish.

Mead drove down the right-hand side and fired a square ball across to Alessia Russo but was a bit heavy and passed Hayley Russo by.

However, Kelly was there arriving at the far post and the City star hammered a superb strike into the back of the net.

It was her first international goal since her iconic extra time Wembley winner which fired England to Euro 2022 glory against Germany in July.

And it was no less than she deserved after a quite magnificent all-round display.

England’s dominance was further emphasised by a fine third goal from Manchester United striker Toone 13 minutes from time whose shot from substitute Ebony Salmon’s assist ricocheted in off the inside of the post into the net.

And a wonderful night’s work was capped by Park’s close range finish in injury time, the striker marking her Lionesses debut with a moment she will never forget just a minute after coming on.

Meanwhile City’s Kerstin Casperij featured for 64 minutes as the Netherlands overcame Costa Rica 4-0 in a friendly in Utrecht.

All the goals came in a dominant first half with Daniëlle van de Donk (14), Dominique Janssen (42), Fenna Kalma (44) and Esmee Brugts (45’+2) finding the target.

Julie Blakstad played almost the full 90 minutes as Norway were edged out 2-1 by France in another international friendly.

Kadidiatou Diani gave France a 22nd minute lead only for Sophie Roman Haug to level for Norway on the half hour.

But seven minutes from time Viviane Asseyi headed home to win the game for the French.
