Chloe Kelly is in contention for April’s Barclays Women’s Super League Player of the Month award.

The winger enjoyed a hugely successful month and was at the centre of two emphatic City victories over West Ham United and Reading.

Indeed, the England international added three WSL goals to her personal tally in April, while also laying on for her team-mates on as many occasions.

VOTE FOR CHLOE KELLY

The month started with Kelly grabbing an assist in City’s 2-1 defeat at Arsenal, when the winger found Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw for the game’s opening goal.

And while Gareth Taylor’s side weren’t able to hold on to our early lead, we put that setback swiftly behind us with a lightning-fast start to proceedings in our following WSL encounter.

Indeed, a brace from Kelly inside the opening seven minutes set the tone for a dominant display against West Ham United, with both goals demonstrating the confidence that she’s currently playing with.

The winger pounced on a defensive mistake to chip Hammers stopper Mackenzie Arnold from distance to light the blue touch paper, before cleverly feinting the ball onto her favoured right foot and firing into the bottom corner for her second in less than 60 seconds.

And she would also have a say in the final goal of a free-scoring afternoon for City, with her late corner headed home by substitute Mary Fowler for her first WSL goal of the season.

It was a similar story against Reading the following week, with Kelly bundling home from close-range to draw City level at the Academy Stadium.

Our number nine continued to drive Gareth Taylor’s side forward in what would eventually be another emphatic triumph on home soil, with an eye of the needle pass across the face of goal presenting Lauren Hemp with the third in a 4-1 win after the break.

Kelly faces stiff competition from Tottenham’s Beth England, Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly, Leicester’s Courtney Nevin, Manchester United’s Hannah Blundell and Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland for the award.
