The City striker – who was out of action for 11 months after sustaining an ACL injury in May 2021 before returning to action in April this year - came on as a second half substitute in what was the first of three warm-ups for the Lionesses ahead of next month’s European Championships.
And she made an instant impact, firing home a 62nd minute deflected goal to set England on the way to a deserved win.
Reflecting on the experience, Kelly admitted her maiden Lionesses goal was a special moment to savour

“No it couldn’t [have gone better],” Kelly admitted.
“It was brilliant to be back out there with the girls.
“I’m just enjoying my football and to get a goal was an amazing experience. It was brilliant.”
Having worked her way back to full fitness with City in late spring after her serious injury, Kelly’s selection earlier this week as part of England’s 23-strong European Championships squad was further testament to the 25-year-old’s drive and determination.
She said right from the moment she sustained her injury 13 months ago, making the Lionesses Euro was a target in her mind-set.
And she also gave an insight into the way head coach Sarina Wiegman wants her to express herself with the Lionesses with a friendly against reigning European champions the Netherlands next up on June 24.
“I said from the minute I got injured that I wanted to be at the Euros,” Kelly revealed.

“I worked so hard each day. Being out there is great but I realise how much hard work I put in in my rehab.
“The manager has told me to be an attacking player. To beat my opponent and get balls in the box and just to enjoy myself back on the pitch.
“That’s what I did against Belgium. I tried to get on my player one v one and enjoyed every minute of being out there and being back amongst the girls
“The Netherlands will be a great challenge and another step in the right direction. Each challenge gets us ready for 6 July.”
