Previous World Cup performances

Having only gained her first senior England cap towards the end of 2022, Morgan is yet to sample her first taste of the World Cup.

She was, however, part of the Lionesses squad that won the inaugural Women’s Finalissima earlier this year against Brazil.

Player profile

Morgan’s impressive leadership and longevity mean it’s easy to forget that she’s still just 22 years old.

Making her competitive debut for the Club a matter of weeks after receiving her GCSE results in 2017, the defender’s energy, commitment and athleticism have helped her to become one of City’s most important figures over the following six years.

But to solely highlight her physical capabilities would be a disservice to an incredibly versatile and technically excellent young defender.

Her ability to operate at centre-half or in a full-back role has been integral to Gareth Taylor in 2022/23, with Morgan able to get forward on the overlap or offer a steady hand in the middle of the park when the inverted position is called upon.

A lifelong blue, the England defender was handed the captain’s armband for the first time against Reading last November.

It was far from simply a sentimental gesture and instead just rewards for a player who has continued to improve year on year, becoming a key figure at the Academy Stadium.

Her senior England debut had come a few weeks prior to that opportunity against the Royals. Claiming World Cup glory with the Lionesses this summer just ten months later would represent another outstanding milestone for one of the Club’s most exciting talents.
