TEAM NEWS

Andrée Jeglertz has confirmed Grace Clinton, Lauren Hemp, Rebecca Knaak and Sydney Lohmann are once again all in contention to feature in Saturday’s WSL Manchester derby.

Germany international Knaak started City’s 2-1 win at Everton last weekend after recovering from a knee injury sustained this summer, while Clinton, Hemp and Lohmann all featured from the bench at Goodison Park.

It’s a significant boost to Jeglertz ahead of the first Manchester derby of the season, taking place at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 15 November at 13:30 (UK).

City go into the tie as WSL leaders with United two places and four points behind, and our Head Coach says having healthier options from the bench allows him to adapt and assess what the team needs across the 90 minutes.

Asked about Knaak, Clinton, Hemp and Lohmann’s prospects of featuring this weekend, he said: “Yes. It’s one for us to consider what is the best way of winning the game.

“It’s good for us. Of course, the ones that are coming back is giving competition for each position in the team bigger and raising the level in the training session.”

Opposition Manager: Marc Skinner

Appointed in 2021, Skinner will bring his side to the Etihad aiming to close the gap on league leaders City.

United are currently third in the WSL, four points behind the Blues after suffering their first defeat of the season last time out when they were beaten 1-0 by Aston Villa.

One To Watch

Jess Park will come back to the Etihad after moving across Manchester in the summer in a deal that saw Grace Clinton join City.

She was named the WSL’s Player of the Month for October after playing a key part in United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea before scoring twice as her side completed a second-half comeback against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Park pipped City’s Iman Beney and Aoba Fujino to the award and everyone will be wary of her quality on her return.

Previous Meeting

Saturday’s clash will be the first time that the two Clubs have met this season.

The previous derby was in May which finished 2-2 after Laia Aleixandri and Rebecca Knaak had put City 2-0 ahead with Clinton on target for the Reds.

Our last home fixture against United was at the Etihad in January when we were beaten 4-2.

Last Time Out

City moved top of the WSL for the first time this season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to Everton.

Vivianne Miedema fired us ahead midway through the first half before Kelly Gago equalised shortly before the break.

But Bunny Shaw’s powerful header secured the win at Goodison Park and a seventh successive three points in the WSL.

TV Coverage

Derby day will be shown live in the United Kingdom at 13:00 on BBC One.
