Gareth Taylor made three changes to the side that progressed to the Women’s FA Cup semi-finals with a 6-0 win over Leicester in midweek.

Demi Stokes, Keira Walsh and Ellen White were restored to the starting XI, in place of Georgia Stanway, Vicky Losada (who missed out with an ankle injury) and Khadija Shaw - Walsh making her first start of the season.

Karima Taieb was shielded by a backline of Stokes, Alex Greenwood, Jill Scott and Janine Beckie. Walsh reclaimed her spot in defensive midfield, employed behind Caroline Weir and Filippa Angeldahl.

Lauren Hemp and Jess Park occupied the wings with captain White leading the line upfront.

“It will be a tough game. They make it difficult and protect space as much as possible.

“They have fluidity with manager being there for a while and retaining players last season, changing a few.

“Results have been good so far. They’ve stepped up so we are expecting a tough game. 

“Games are great. Games are good when you’ve not had a good result and it’s great we are back home again on Sunday.

“It’s a decent opponent but a chance to get a win on the board.”

LAST TIME OUT

City bounced back to winning ways with an emphatic 6-0 win over Leicester in our midweek 2021 Women’s FA Cup quarter-final at the Academy Stadium.

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw led the way, scoring a hat-trick with a Vicky Losada strike and first-ever City goals from skipper for the night Alex Greenwood and Filippa Angeldahl sealing the deal.

Our reward is a semi-final encounter with Chelsea.

City finished the 2020/21 season on a high against the Hammers, booking a place in the quarter-finals of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.

Goals from Ellen White, Janine Beckie, Rose Lavelle, Sam Mewis and Lauren Hemp secured the holders’ place in the last eight with a thumping 5-1 win over West Ham, as Gareth Taylor‘s side continued our defence of the trophy to sign off on a fittingly positive note.

Seven days earlier City had signed off the 2020/21 FA Women’s Super League season with a 1-0 triumph over the Londoners, Ellen White marking her 32nd birthday with the only goal of the game to claim all three points.

City head into the game looking to build on that fine Leicester triumph and also bounce back to winning ways in the league.

After back-to-back losses against Tottenham and Arsenal, we currently sit eighth in the FA WSL table with one win and two defeats from our opening three games.

West Ham will travel to the Academy Stadium in the wake of a fine 4-0 league win at home to Leicester last Sunday and currently sit in seventh place in the table with four points.

That followed a 1-1 draw at home to Aston Villa in the league with Olli Harder’s side losing their opening league clash 2-0 away at Brighton on the opening weekend.

• City have won each of our five WSL meetings with West Ham by an aggregate score of 20-2.
• We haven’t suffered back-to-back defeats on home soil in the Women’s Super League since October 2014 and have never previously lost three in a row in the top-flight.
• West Ham’s 100% WSL losing record against City can only be matched by the Hammers in games with Arsenal, losing all five of their clashes with both sides in the division.
• The London outfit have netted just five goals across their last seven away league matches, drawing blanks in three straight games on the road on two occasions, either side of a 5-0 win at Reading in April.
