Gareth Taylor’s side started the campaign after a summer of change which saw a number of fresh faces arrive at the Academy Stadium.
From the first whistle to the last, goal records were smashed, water-tight partnerships were formed and bonds strengthened on and off the pitch.
Although we narrowly missed out on a place in the UEFA Women’s Champions League on goal difference, there were certainly positive signs we’ll look to build on next term.
In the first instalment of our end of season review, we take a look at our trio of shot stoppers, with each member of our goalkeepers’ union having strong campaigns.

Ellie Roebuck
England international, Roebuck, was once again a mainstay between the sticks for Taylor’s side – making 22 appearances in all competitions.
A calm and commanding presence at the back, the 23-year-old underscored her position as one of the finest goalkeepers in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
This was perfectly highlighted when she kept a clean sheet in our fantastic 2-0 victory over eventual champions Chelsea in March.
After City went in at half-time with a two-goal advantage, she weathered the Londoners’ storm to prevent their four shots on target breaching her goal.
Amid a swathe of season highlights, perhaps her greatest moment came in the record-breaking Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium in December.
With City a goal down following the interval, she produced a jaw-dropping save to keep out Martha Thomas’ header which looked certain to find the back of the net out of the air.
SANDY MACIVER
MacIver returned to the Club from Everton ahead of the 2022/23 campaign and reflected her immense potential across her nine outings for City.
The 24-year-old showed her classy ability mostly in the Continental Cup campaign as we reached the semi-finals, playing five out of six matches - keeping five clean sheets and conceding just once.
In our final group game in the League Cup against Leicester, who were aiming to qualify from the first stage of the competition with victory, MacIver delivered a tremendous first-half performance to keep Willie Kirk’s side at bay.
Among a string of stops, she made an outstanding low diving save to her left to divert Aileen Whelan’s driven volley away from danger.
KHIARA KEATING
City’s Academy graduate came of age in 2022/23 with a number of composed performances.
After providing competition to Roebuck and MacIver during the first half of the season, she enjoyed a productive loan spell with Championship side Coventry United midway through the campaign.
She then returned to the Academy Stadium and made three appearances before the end of the season. In total, the 18-year-old, has now made eight outings for the Club.
On her first match back from representing the Red and Greens, she performed beyond her teenage years in a 6-2 victory over West Ham at home.
After an eventful start to the match with the score 3-1 before the interval, Keating produced a phenomenal reaction save to deny Lisa Evans’ volley from all of five-yards.
Keating will be certainly looking to build on her 2022/23 campaign next term.
