Fresh from her latest landmark, Ellen White says she and City can’t wait to lock horns with United in Saturday’s eagerly-awaited Manchester Derby.

The City and England forward, who netted her 50th FA Women’s Super League goal in Saturday’s 8-1 thrashing of Bristol City has already savoured success at the home of our neighbours, having bagged a brace in our FA Cup thriller back in January.

This weekend, the Reds host their first league Derby (with last season’s reverse fixture sadly cancelled with the early conclusion of the campaign) – and after her two-goal haul over the Robins, White is relishing a return to Leigh Sports Village.

“I’m really happy and looking forward to the games coming up,” she said.

“First and foremost, it’s all about the team winning. We’ve come off the back of three games in a short space of time and we’ve won all three.

“I’m happy to contribute in any way I can. As a striker, I want to score goals but the most important thing is to win.”

Saturday’s sensational triumph over Bristol City marked City’s all-time record league victory, surpassing our previous achievement of a 7-1 win over West Ham two years ago.

While the Robins had proven difficult to break down in a frustrating opening 40 minutes, once the hosts found the crucial second goal, the floodgates opened and Gareth Taylor’s side blitzed into a 4-1 half-time lead.

White hailed her side’s ‘professionalism’ to continue the rout into the second half, adding patience was key.

“It was all about patience,” she reflected. “The intensity was good and it was really pleasing to score that amount of goals.

“We scored some brilliant goals and there were a lot of goalscorers.

“There was a good reaction after they scored (the equaliser). We knew if we kept moving the ball and working hard, the goals would come.

“We understand some teams bank up and set up really well defensively. They were set up really well so for us, it was about trying to combat that.

“We had to be patient with the ball and keep up the intensity of our play, being ruthless in the final third.

“It was all about the team’s performance and professionalism. That was really important.”
