Six members of the City squad have been selected for the final round of England's Women's World Cup qualifiers, but Chloe Kelly will miss out with a minor injury.

Ellie Roebuck, Sandy MacIver, Alex Greenwood, Demi Stokes, Keira Walsh and Lauren Hemp have all been selected as part of Sarina Wiegman’s 23-player squad for fixtures against Austria and Luxembourg in early September.

But Euro 2022 final hero Kelly, who was brought off early in the second half of City’s UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, has been ruled out for the latest round of fixtures.

The qualifiers represent England’s first matches since their historic triumph at the end of July, which brought an end to a 56-year wait for a major international honour.

Six members of the current City squad played a major role in that success, with Kelly grabbing an extra time winner in the final against Germany in front of a record crowd of over 87,000 at Wembley.

By chance, the Lionesses started that historic journey by facing Austria - and the two sides will lock horns once again at the Wiener Neustadter Stadion on Saturday 3 September.

Sarina Wiegman’s side currently sit top of Group D qualifying having taken maximum points from their eight matches so far, with Austria the only side able to catch them at the summit.

Kick-off scheduled for 16:30 (UK), and a victory over the Austrians would guarantee England’s spot at next summer’s tournament in Australia and New Zealand as Group D winners.

Should they fail to claim all three points in Wiener Neustadt, then the Lionesses will be presented with another opportunity to qualify automatically when they face Luxembourg three days later.

The match is set to get under way from 19:30, and will take place at Stoke City’s Bet365 Stadium.
