The versatile defender started at right-back alongside the pair, with Laia Aleixandri completing the back four that delivered our 12th clean sheet of the term in all competitions.
That security across the defence allowed Gareth Taylor’s side to build from the back, while first half goals from Filippa Angeldahl and Lauren Hemp secured three points over the Londoners at the Academy Stadium.
Houghton and Greenwood’s inclusion against Emma Hayes’ team means they have played a combined 319 times for City in glistening careers which has seen them lift two major honours at the Club together.
And Morgan detailed the impact they both have on the field.
“It’s huge because they organise everyone else,” she explained.
“Especially in the second half, when Chelsea were coming at us, and against it we were struggling to clear the ball properly and get up and out of our own half.
“They’re just reassuring presences.
“Steph’s so vocal in terms of organising everyone on the pitch. Alex is a player you know when balls are getting pumped into the box, she’s just going to charge through and get her head on it.
“You look at those players and know ‘they’ve got my back and we’ll be okay here’.
“And you know they’ve been in these situations [where] your back’s against the wall and managed to fight through in the game. It’s huge having players like that around you.”
The victory over Chelsea sees us move to second in the WSL table as our title bid gathers momentum.
What’s more, the success also extends our unbeaten league streak to 14 matches – a run that stretches back to September 2022.
And Morgan stated her pride in her teammates following the display at the Academy Stadium.
She added: “[The win feels] really good.
“To be fair I woke up this morning, sometimes you just get a good feeling, I woke up this morning with a good feeling. Thankfully I was proven right. So I need to trust my gut.
“I’m really proud of the effort we put in and they were two wonderful goals in the first half.”
