Andrée Jeglertz Preview
During his press conference on Friday afternoon, Andree Jeglertz confirmed he has no new injury concerns ahead of our trip to Goodison Park.
“The team is fine,” began the Head Coach.
“Of course,[there are] a couple of players not training who are on a longer rehab plan.
“Otherwise, [it was a] full week with more sessions, and we’re in a good place at the moment.”
The boss was also asked about the unfortunate absence of captain Alex Greenwood who will be sidelined for a short period through injury. But, Jeglertz is confident his players will step up to the task of filling the void left by the defender’s omission from the squad.
“Of course, it’s a massive loss to lose your captain, a great player and great leader,” said Jeglertz.
“This is what it’s about for the rest of the group to manage that.
“I’m not worried that it will be a challenge in the coming weeks. We will always miss Alex when she’s not on the field, but at the same time, others will feel they need to take a bigger responsibility, and I think that is key.
“It shows the group is strong because I don’t need to tell them that. It gives the team the challenge of figuring out how to deal with it.”
Opposition Manager: Brian Sorensen
Danish manager Sorensen was appointed as Everton boss in April 2022 on a two-year deal, before extending again in 2024.
The 45-year-old enjoyed a particularly fruitful two spells at Danish side Fortuna Hjorring before his move to Merseyside, winning the Danish Championship in 2014 and 2016.
They also reaching the quarter finals in the 2016/17 UEFA Women’s Champions League, and he’s transformed Everton into a solid outfit since leaving Denmark in 2022.
He most recently earned the Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month award in May 2024, and guided Everton to eighth in the WSL last season.
One To Watch:
Everton are currently ninth in the league, but their last fixture at Aston Villa played out as a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The Toffees became the only team to score against Villa in October with that point, but are still searching for a second win of the season after an opening derby day 4-1 victory over Liverpool.
Ornella Vignola made history in that game by becoming the Blues’ first women’s player to score a hat-trick against Liverpool.
She’ll be looking to make a difference and extend her lead as the club’s top goal scorer this season.
