Taylor asserts however his side must not be affected by results elsewhere and must focus solely on our own circumstances.
“We certainly had chances,” he admitted. “They were good opportunities and we should have taken one of the many we had.

“Sometimes, that’s football and the longer the game goes on, the anxiety starts to kick in and the decision-making is off.
“The girls are under no illusions that we need to be better in the final third with our decision-making and final action, where it matters.
“Goals are important and of course, we don’t want to concede any. It’s a positive in that respect – we’ve had two clean sheets.
“We can’t affect what’s happening elsewhere. We just need to control what we can control.
“Teams will have good days like we will, and they’ll have bumpy days like we have.
“We haven’t lost the game. We wanted to win and I could only see one team who were looking for the win in terms of possession and chances.
“I always look at the performance and there were good elements to our play and we built up really well. I’m pleased with the performance in that respect.
“Credit to Brighton – they got bodies in the line and their goalkeeper made a number of good saves – but I expect us to have taken at least a few of the opportunities we had.
“It might be a positive point when it matters. We need to remain on an even keel
“Hopefully, it’s a learning curve. We’ll learn from it and move on.”

On the subject of positives, the clash also saw the homecoming of Lucy Bronze, while Alex Greenwood and Sam Mewis also made their home debuts.
Taylor was equally pleased with the contributions of the new recruits, although the two Lionesses now head to international duty for England’s training camp at St George’s Park this week.
“We’ve not had them for a great length of time,” he admitted, “and we weren’t sure how they’d fare but there was some positive play and good parts in the build-up.
“Some of the girls will go on international break now and we’ll work with the others while they’re here.
“We’re just starting to find our way a little bit but it is what it is – it’s the same for everyone.
“We’ll get back with everyone together, and get ready for the start of the FA Cup when it resumes.”
