The boss made nine changes to his starting XI, three enforced due to suspensions, in our Conti Cup opener against Everton, with goals from Jess Park and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw earning a deserved 2-1 triumph at Walton Hall Park.
City are back on Merseyside again this Wednesday when we face a Liverpool side who have started the new Barclays Women’s Super League campaign in impressive fashion.
Nonetheless, Taylor insists he won’t be afraid to freshen up his squad, and is confident that the team who face the Reds will deliver another strong showing.
“We changed nine players against Everton, had three suspensions and played phenomenally well,” the boss said in his pre-match press conference.
“We trust the players that we have whether we make nine changes or no changes.
“We’re always looking at being as effective as we possibly can.
“We trust the players we have and have a number of international players here who start or don’t start games. That’s the level we want to get to.”
The boss was also asked about comments that were made surrounding his counterpart Jonas Eidevall’s conduct following City’s slender WSL defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
While admitting that every manager can be guilty of overstepping the line, Taylor believes that stricter measures need to be enforced to respect match officials.
He added: “I think there needs to be levels of respect for sure. Everyone tries to do their best in any job, people make mistakes and we saw that yesterday.
“Every single one of us involved in that game will have made some form of error along the way.
“Everyone needs to be respected and that can easily be ironed out by enforcing it a little bit more.
“We had that in the Chelsea game, almost probably too much in terms of highlighting and punishing those types of things.
“That’s all we’re looking for really. We want it to be fair, that’s all.”
