Gareth Taylor says he’s excited to have Jess Park back within his ranks for the 2023/24 season.

The winger enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Everton last year, with her performances enough to earn a first senior England appearance in November 2022.

Her season was unfortunately cut short due to injury, but the 21-year-old made her first appearance back at the Club in our 3-2 friendly win over Bristol City last Saturday.

And the boss is eager to see what the winger can deliver across the upcoming campaign.

“Jess is a quality player. She’s bright, intelligent and really quick with her feet,” Taylor declared.

“She’s got that ability to play in various roles for us. That’s great, you want players who are versatile and can bring quality.

“She’s intelligent for a young player, she’s a really intelligent player. She gets it, she buys into it, she wants to improve. She’s young but with a lot of experience for a young player.

“[I’m] excited to see where her season goes this year.”

Park wasn’t the only player to return to Taylor’s side in the behind-closed-doors success over the Vixens.

Indeed, several players who represented City at the Women’s World Cup also featured, including a maiden appearance in sky blue for summer signing Jill Roord.

And the boss has been buoyed by having his group back together at the City Football Academy as the new season comes into focus.

He added: “It was good to see Jill [Roord] out there [who is a] quality player. Yui [Hasegawa], obviously, coming back in. Kerstin [Casparij], Julie [Blakstad] is back and Bunny [Shaw] as well – getting on the scoresheet which is important for us and her.

“[It was] great. It’s a bit [disjointed] as and when with the players in terms of their return. We had a couple of days out with the Matildas and the Lionesses who returned in the last few days.

“We kept them out of this game for reasons that were to benefit them.

“It’s good to get back together as a group now all of us and looking forward to the next couple of games before we start the season.”
