But strikes from Caroline Weir, Keira Walsh, Lauren Hemp and Laura Coombs ensured we took home a deserved three points to claim a second win in the space of just three days.
And the City boss was proud of how the players responded to the early setback, believing we eventually hit top gear at the King Power Stadium.
“Great credit to the girls. The way they handled things, we were dominant. They were first class,” he reflected.
“It was a tough start but we showed real character and determination, and we played some exceptional football.
“While the game was 2-1, it was great to fight back and lead. It was tight - you saw the best of us at 3-1 up, the confidence and positional play was top notch.
Taylor also provided an update on the fitness of Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton and Ellie Roebuck in his post-match press conference.
The City boss has earmarked the next international break at the end of November as a potential return date for the England trio, as we gradually return towards a full complement of players.
Nonetheless, he also qualified that he is pleased with how the squad are currently performing and hopes we can build on victory over Leicester in next weekend’s clash at home to Chelsea.
He said: “We had six outfield players on the bench, (which is) pretty good.
“It’s been worse than that in terms of numbers this season, the next ones to return will be Lucy (Bronze), Steph (Houghton) and Ellie Roebuck, but I don’t imagine that will be soon.

“Hopefully, in the next international break, those players will be close.
“We have to manage that situation, (and) it was vital we won today.
“We have to take that momentum into Chelsea next weekend and if we win, things look a lot healthier.”
