Gareth Taylor said Manchester City have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the Manchester derby in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday.

Following two defeats in our last four matches, City can no longer win the title, but we remain in contention for a top-three finish to secure a Champions League place.

Australia internationals Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy both missed City’s last game against Liverpool but Taylor did not report any more concerns.

“We have a couple of little niggles which is normal at this time of the season but I don’t see any real changes,” the boss said ahead of the WSL clash with Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday at 18:45 (UK).

City forward Jess Park returned to the Club last week from a loan spell with Everton after suffering from a shoulder injury.

Taylor revealed that a scan suggested the injury was not as bad as feared and believes that she can be in contention for the England squad for the World Cup later this year.

“I think Jess will be okay,” he added. “She is back with us and out on the pitch today. It’s a positive.

“She’s not joining in but is able to do activity. The scan wasn’t too severe. Jess is good and in good spirits.

“I think Jess has benefitted from going out getting game time week-in, week-out in a different set up.

“I’m impressed with what I have seen. I remember the impact she made in my first season in charge, she brings a calmness and quality to the team.

“I’m excited to have her back in the fold and excited to see her develop with that season at Everton under her belt.

“I think it was really beneficial for her to go out and get this experience. Playing with England will also have really helped her level too.”

With United in the title race and City pushing for a Champions League, the game takes on extra importance.

Taylor says the derby is an exciting clash irrespective of the consequences, although his squad are trying to prepare as normal as much as they can.

“The Manchester derby is a big game and one you look at when the fixtures are announced,” he added.

“It’s another game and there’s nothing different, with three points up for grabs and we will be trying to get them. It’s not [a normal game], but it kind of is.”
