Gareth Taylor has confirmed a decision will be made tomorrow on whether Steph Houghton and Lucy Bronze will feature against Bristol City.

Speaking ahead of City’s clash with the Vixens, Taylor confirmed the pair face a late fitness test after missing last Wednesday’s 5-0 Champions League win over Fiorentina.

“We are all good, we just have to check in on Steph [Houghton] and Lucy [Bronze],” he said. “We will make the decision on them tomorrow morning.”

Taylor confirmed that, other than the England duo, he has no other injury concerns.

“Aside from them [Houghton and Bronze] everyone has come through OK, so we are all good.”

City head into Wednesday night’s game in strong form, having won eight straight games in all competitions.

However, the hosts come into this one on the back of a mixed run, having won two, lost two and drew one of their last five outings, including a 6-0 defeat to Chelsea last time out in the Continental Cup final.

Despite a demoralising last outing, Taylor is not taking Wednesday’s opponents for granted.

“They did great getting to the final, and have had a couple of ok results, beating Reading. We need to focus on us and be respectful.”

With just eight games left in the FA Women’s Super League campaign City sit two points behind leaders, Chelsea, and as we enter the final stages of the season Taylor’s target is to come away with the league title.

“It’s a big aim for us [to win the league],” he said. “There are bound to be twists and turns along the way, and as well for other teams.

“We focus on one game at a time, and don’t look beyond bristol.

“The next game is always important and we want to continue our momentum and keep picking up points.”

Since defeat to Chelsea in October of last year, Taylor and his side have not lost a league game, and the City boss hopes his team will continue this remarkable run against the Vixens.

“We want to start the game fast, like we have recently. But if that’s not the case, we need to be patient and keep doing our game.

“We have the ability to score when it matters.”
