Gareth Taylor has revealed that Sandy MacIver and Laia Aleixandri will likely miss the rest of the season through injury.

Aleixandri was forced off in the second half of City’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Barclays Women’s Super League after a late collision.

MacIver, meanwhile, pulled out of England’s latest international camp following a complaint in the groin and adductor area, but the boss is hopeful that the injury won’t rule her out of any potential involvement at the World Cup this summer.

Taylor had more positive news to share around England pair Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp though, who are both in contention to face West Ham after recovering from niggles picked up on international duty.

Alanna Kennedy and Demi Stokes also continue their respective recoveries, with the boss hopeful they will feature again soon.

“This one [international break] was slightly different as we were disappointed not be included in the FA Cup semi-final,” the boss reflected.

“That gave us a bit more time, the international break was a nice period to be able to give, especially those on international duty, them a couple days to recover and rest up for the final push.

“In that respect, it gave us more time. The only continuation is Alanna who has just got an issue. She’s getting that little bit closer.

“We should hopefully she her by the end of the season. During and before the break we lost both Sandy and Laia. That’ll be them for the season now.

“[Sandy is] Probably not for the World Cup, she’ll recover in time for that. The injury is groin/abductor area.

“It’s something she had while she was here with us and got worse with England.

“Demi’s back in training. Everyone else is pretty much coming through fine. Alex and Lauren are okay. We’re in pretty good shape to be fair.”

City welcome West Ham United to the Academy Stadium on Sunday 23 April, with another home clash against Reading to follow seven days later.

With Chelsea and Arsenal both in Champions League action, it provides Taylor’s side with an opportunity to gain ground in the WSL title race before our rivals return to domestic action.

But while the boss highlighted the importance of getting the points on the board, he insisted the sole focus was on our next fixture.

He said: “I think visually it looks good. If we can do that, points on the board is better than games in hand.

“It looks good, but it’ll even out. It may change slightly.

“It’s a good impetus for us to have, this is what it can look like the next two games.

“We’re not getting too far ahead of us. Concentrate on West Ham before we move onto the next one.”
