Hayley Raso played 58 minutes as Australia registered a 3-2 win over Spain in the Cup of Nations in Sydney.

The City winger backed up her brace in Thursday’s 4-0 defeat of Czech Republic with another influential performance against one of the top ranked sides in the world.

City team-mates Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy were unused substitutes against Spain.

Playing largely on the break, Raso’s pace was crucial to getting Australia up the pitch following Spain attacks.

She supplied Cortnee Vine on the edge of the area for the first goal of the day.

Her cross for Sam Kerr then led to the Matildas’ second a few minutes later, with Clare Polkinghorne eventually poking home.

Her final key contribution came in winning the free-kick that resulted in Caitlin Foord’s goal to put Australia three goals to the good.

Spain rallied following Raso’s substitution and found two goals but Australia were able to hang on for the win.

Australia’s final game in the Cup of Nations sees them host Jamaica at 08:10 (UK) on Wednesday 22 February.

It was less positive news for Yui Hasegawa‘s Japan in the SheBelieves Cup, who fell to a defeat against USA.

Our midfielder played the full 90 minutes in a game that was decided by Mallory Swanson’s goal in the closing stages of the first half.

After Thursday’s 1-0 defeat to Brazil, that leaves Japan without a point two matches in.

They will play their final match in the tournament against Canada at 21:00 (UK) on Wednesday 22 February.
