Former Manchester City midfielder Izzy Christiansen has announced she will retire from professional football at the end of the 2022/23 season.

A founding member of our first professional outfit, she made 110 appearances for City over a four-year period, scoring 32 times.

One of those strikes secured our first piece of silverware in a 1-0 win over Arsenal in the 2014 Continental Cup final.

Christiansen would go on to claim every domestic honour during her time at City, with four trophies in as many years at the Academy Stadium.

Her exploits across the following campaign, in which we secured UEFA Champions League qualification for the first time, also saw her named our Player of the Season for 2015.

Also scoring in our 4-1 FA Cup final triumph over Birmingham in 2017, the midfielder would eventually move on to pastures new, joining Olympique Lyonnais ahead of the 2018/19 season.

Having secured a European treble with the French outfit, she would move back to England when signing for Everton at the end of 2019, where she would continue to ply her trade until calling time on her career.

Already enjoying a successful career in the media, Christiansen has offered her expert insight on several occasions as part of our Matchday Live show for both men’s and women’s fixtures.

Everyone at Manchester City would like to congratulate Izzy on a fantastic career and wish her all the best in the future.
