The City forward has made the star-studded 13-player shortlist, lining up alongside: Kadeisha Buchanan, Allysha Chapman Jessie Fleming, Jordyn Huitema, Stephanie Labbé, Ashley Lawrence , Nichelle Prince, Sophie Schmidt, Desiree Scott , Kailen Sheridan, Christine Sinclair and Shelina Zadorsky.
Earlier this month, Beckie became the first Canadian to score in an FA Cup Final, helping City to retain the trophy in a 3-1 extra-time win over Everton at Wembley.
Though the 2019/20 FA Women’s Super League season was ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the forward had earned praise for her performances, showcasing her impressive versatility by covering at right-back in Aoife Mannion‘s absence throughout the campaign.
Prior to her defensive stint, she had starred in our Champions League campaign with five goals in our first three games, including a hat-trick in the Round of 32 second leg win over Lugano.
Colorado-born, Beckie holds dual-citizenship with Canada and the United States. Since making her debut in 2014, she has been a regular name in the Canadian side, scoring 31 goals in 70 appearances.
In 2020, the forward claimed her third CONCACAF medal, helping her country to qualify for a fourth successive Olympics.
With four goals in the calendar year (including a hat-trick in an Olympic qualifier against Jamaica), she became Canada’s joint top scorer over the past five years alongside the legendary Sinclair.
Congratulations, Janine!
