Jill Roord believes she could play some of the best football of her career at Manchester City.

The decorated Netherlands international has penned a three-year deal at the Club which brings an end to a wonderful stay with German outfit VfL Wolfsburg.

It represents the second time she will have played in England after enjoying a two-year spell with fellow Barclays Women’s Super League side Arsenal from 2019-2021.

At just 26-years-old she has won a plethora of trophies both domestically and on the international stage.

And Roord says Gareth Taylor’s side is the ideal place to write the next chapter of her illustrious career to date.

“I’m not the oldest but also not the youngest anymore, usually this should be the good years as they say,” she declared.

“I feel like this step is the right step right now. I’m very excited about it and I think it suits me perfectly.

“I’ve always thought this league is super interesting, super competitive and especially the past two years and what’s happened I think for every player playing in England is like a dream.

“I’m also super excited to see how it is right now because from what I’ve heard and seen it has developed even more.”

After two years in north London, Roord joined Wolfsburg ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

During her time at the AOK Stadion, she helped them to the league title in her maiden campaign and to a second-place finish last term – narrowly missing out on retaining their crown by two points.

Alongside this, she played an integral part in Die Wölfinnen’s run to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final where, in a thrilling showpiece, they unfortunately lost to Spanish giants Barcelona (4-2).

Despite just missing out on the prestigious European prize, Roord is relishing the chance to once again stamp her authority on the English game.

She added: “I think I’ve grown up there [in Germany] quickly.

“I think playing in Germany is super different, a bit out of my comfort zone, but [it] also has been very good for me.

“It’s a different style of play and also a different mentality. I think I can bring that here, that experience.

“I think it has been important for me in my career.”
