Kerstin Casparij has been included in the Netherlands’ final squad for the 2023 World Cup.

The defender has been selected as part of the 23-player shortlist for the tournament, which gets under way in Australia and New Zealand on Thursday 20 July.

Holland face Portugal, the United States and Vietnam in Group E, with their first fixture on Sunday 23 July.

However, Oranje will play in one final warm-up friendly ahead of this summer’s showpiece on Sunday, when they lock horns with Belgium in Limburg at 19:45 (UK).

Casparij featured 25 times in her debut campaign at City after a pre-season move from FC Twente, grabbing five assists from full-back in the process.

She was part of the Holland squad who reached the quarter-finals of last year’s European Championships, before being edged out by a single goal against France.

That last eight finish came three years after the Dutch had reached the World Cup final at the previous tournament, falling at the final hurdle against the United States.

However, this will be the defender’s first World Cup experience, having made her international debut in 2021.

She will be joined by 10 of her City team-mates at the tournament, with Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy also in contention to represent Australia ahead of their final squad announcement in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Kerstin on her inclusion in the Netherlands’ World Cup squad!
