The Netherlands international was one of several new recruits in the transfer window, in what was a period of change for Gareth Taylor’s side.
Since then, she’s gone from strength to strength, and has become a well-liked member of the squad due to her infectious personality and dynamic displays at full-back.
So far, she’s made 11 appearances for the Club since her switch from FC Twente.
And she’s described her love for City and her happiness in joining Taylor’s team.
“Great. I love it. I’m so happy to be here every day when I’m on the pitch with the girls. I didn’t expect it to be so good, so fast. I think I’ve settled in brilliantly. I’m just so, so excited,” she explained.
“The derby was, especially one of them [best moments so far] and my first game in the Academy Stadium.
“Yeah, just games like that with a lot of crowd, a lot of people. But also, just having a cold Manchester day, being on the pitch with the girls, I’m just loving every single minute of it. I’m in love with it all.”
City’s strength in depth across the field has conjured a strong competition for places, while allowing us to compete on all fronts.
One of the most intriguing battles is in defence, where Casparij and Esme Morgan had been competing for the right-back position.
Taylor has often selected them both due to the latter’s immense versatility, with the Dutch defender deployed on the right side.
And Casparij believes Morgan brings the best out of her and vice versa.
She added: “We’re good friends and get along very well which always helps. It’s a very natural and healthy competition that we have.
“We do everything we can in training to give the manager a headache if we can. The relationship’s really good and we bring the best out of each other.
“If I had to compete with anyone for a spot, I’m really happy that I get to do it with Esme.
“Her positioning defensively is great. She knows the Manchester City way a lot better than I did as well, since I’ve only been here a few months. I really looked at her and how she does that. It’s been great.”
The recent cold snap across the United Kingdom saw temperatures plummet and matches across the country postponed.
For Casparij, the conditions were a welcome distraction, though, as it reminded her of her childhood in the Netherlands.
And none more so than memories of ice skating on frozen canals, as she revealed her enjoyment of putting on skates with family and friends.
“Yes [I can ice skate]! Well, we learn from a young age because especially when I was younger, it was much, much colder in the winter,” Casparij disclosed.
“So, we would just go about and be on the ice and do ice hockey and ice skate. In the Netherlands ice skating is just big and popular, um, in ice skating. So yeah, I don’t know any better than to do that every winter.
“You just get on the ice. You have the little ones you can wrap over your shoes. That’s how you begin.
“So, little kids will be running around and have a chair in front of them and then the parents usually teach them, or they just do it themselves.
“I’m not very good but I like bumping into people, so I just mainly take everyone out. That’s just mostly, I don’t care about the puck because I just take everyone out.”
