Khadija Shaw will sport her nickname ‘Bunny’ on the back of her City shirt for the 2021/22 season.

The Jamaican international – affectionately given the name by her older brother Kentardo for her love of carrots – will bear the moniker for the first time in her career.

A summer recruit from Bordeaux, our new number 21 stands as her country’s all-time top goalscorer and hopes to help Gareth Taylor’s side to more silverware this season.

Having made her debut for the Club in Tuesday’s 1-1 Champions League Round Two draw with Real Madrid, Shaw is in contention to make her first FA Women’s Super League appearance in Saturday’s opener at Everton.

Reflecting on her decision and first few weeks at the Club, she expressed her delight, adding she has learned a lot already in her short time in Manchester.

“I’ve decided to have Bunny because it’s a big connection to who I am,” she said. “It is part of my childhood and my football journey all the way up to where I am now.

“My first weeks have been great so far. I’m getting to know the girls more and more every day, and learning about the style of play.

“I want to try to help the team as much as I can and at the end of the day, trophies are what counts. That’s one of the biggest things.”

New signing Filippa Angeldahl will also wear the number 12 shirt.

Tickets for our first home game of the season – our Champions League Round Two second leg against Real Madrid – are now on sale.
