Laia Aleixandri will compete in her first Summer Olympics later this month and she says it is ‘one of her dreams’ to represent Spain at the prestigious competition.

The 23-year-old was part of the 2023/24 UEFA Nations League winning team and will be looking to add another international medal to her collection as Spain look to get their first podium finish at an Olympic Games.

Aleixandri and her team-mates will take on Japan, Nigeria and Brazil in Group C across France from July 25.

And the versatile defender is looking forward to the opportunity to make her Olympics debut.

“It’s one of my dreams,” began Aleixandri.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for me as well to be there and compete for this title.

“I’m always saying to my parents, my friends, even my girlfriend that I’m not tired to win.

“That’s important because you should never be tired to win so you always look for titles and have the opportunity to win so I can’t wait!”

Since joining City in the summer of 2022, Aleixandri has accumulated 54 appearances across all competitions and has scored two goals.

And in those two seasons, the Spanish defender helped City to our joint-highest Barclays Women’s Super League points tally last term as Gareth Taylor’s side just missed out on the league title but secured our place in the Champions League.

But playing for Spain and City, two teams that opponents try that little bit harder to beat, is something that Aleixandri takes great pride in and is unphased by the pressure of playing for both.

“When you are a winning team I think it’s going to be hard to keep winning,” began Aleixandri.

“But it is also something that you have to always work on, not just on the pitch but mentally.

“It’s always a challenge for us at City and for Spain to go again and win and win but that is what makes top teams.”
