Lauren Hemp says former City duo Jill Scott and Ellen White were key in helping her settle on the international scene for England.

The winger made her senior Lionesses debut in 2019, and has since gone on to help Sarina Wiegman’s side be crowned European Champions in 2022 and reach the World Cup final this summer.

Still just 23, Hemp is now a firmly established member of the England squad, and could make her 50th senior appearance in Friday’s UEFA Nations League clash with the Netherlands.

Speaking ahead of that 19:45 (UK) fixture at Wembley, Hemp highlighted some of the former Lionesses who were influential in helping her adapt to the rigours of international football.

“Jill Scott was a massive one for me when I first arrived in the England squad,” she told the press ahead of tomorrow’s showdown.

“She took me under her wing and took me out for coffee, I was like a little child to her, but she took me everywhere and made me feel comfortable among the team.

“Ellen White was another huge one for me, Karen Carney as well.

“Those are the main three but there have been so many.”

Speaking about potentially reach 50 England, Hemp admitted that to reach the landmark at Wembley would take an already special moment to another level.

But while every opportunity to represent her country is an honour, the winger is hoping her next cap is simply another step towards a century in the future.

She added: “That’s the dream [to make 100 appearances]. I work hard for every cap that I get. To make 50 is the first step, then everyone after that is a bonus.

“It’s exciting to think what I could achieve in the future.

“It’s pretty surreal, and to do it at Wembley, there’s no better place to do it. It would be an incredible feeling.

“Every cap is special to me but to make 50 would be incredible. If you told me that [would happen] when I was younger I don’t think I would have believed you.”
