Nick Cushing Preview
The Interim Head Coach provided a squad update ahead of our trip to the King Power. He said: “The squad is looking slightly healthier than it has done over the past few weeks.
“We’ve had Alex [Greenwood] and Lauren [Hemp] in training. It’s been good to get them into competitive training and prepare them for the upcoming games.
“Lauren will be in the squad, that’s a huge boost for the Club and we’ll continue to push the remaining players. We have a day before we need to pick the squad but that will give us confidence.”
On Rebecca Knaak, Cushing stated: “She came out of the game against Everton because we wanted her to be ready to be able to get through 90 minutes.
“She came through the 60 minutes after not playing for so long really successfully. It means we have more of a healthier squad than we’ve had recently.”
And on Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, Cushing added: “Bunny is not with the team in the sense of training so won’t return imminently.”
Last time out
We hosted Everton at the Joie Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Kerstin Casparij broke the deadlock inside 15 minutes, before Karen Holmgaard headed the Toffees level after the half hour mark.
Previous meeting
We hosted the Foxes in the FA Cup in February and recorded a 3-1 victory to send us into the quarter-finals stage.
Leila Ouahabi sent us ahead in the first 20 minutes, as she tapped home past Janina Leitzig to score her second goal for the Citizens.
Kerolin Nicoli proved a threat to the Leicester defence, and it wasn’t long until she doubled our lead as she netted her first goal in City blue.
City continued to cause problems, before half-time substitute Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw extended our lead to three after being on the pitch for just 15 minutes.
Despite a flurry of City chances, Leicester added to the scoresheet with an 82nd minute goal from Foxes’ youngster Nelly Las, but it could only act as a consolation.
Our last WSL meeting against the East Midlands side in December saw a 4-0 victory as we extended our home run to nine straight wins at the Joie Stadium.
‘Bunny’ Shaw headed home inside two minutes to record a perfect start for the Citizens, before firing home a second inside 30 minutes.
Jess Park and Mary Fowler added second-half strikes as we recorded a convincing victory in front of the City faithful.
