Gareth Taylor preview

The boss says he has virtually a full squad to pick from at his news conference with Lauren Hemp available and just Demi Stokes missing as she recovers from injury.

Taylor said he was not surprised by Leicester’s good start to the season.

“I saw signs of this team performing the way they are performing last season. I saw a change,” he said.

“We played them early and then in the cup then Willy [Kirk] took over. He put energy and quality in the team and they’re a force to be reckoned with at the moment.

“We’re pleased to be top of the league but we don’t see it as a short term thing. We want to be there and go into the international break still in that same position.”

      Last time out

Braces from Jill Roord and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw, as well as Laia Aleixandri’s first goal for the Club, saw City cruise to a 5-0 win over Bristol City at the Joie Stadium.

All of the hosts’ goals came in a devastating first half performance, which saw us extend our unbeaten home run in the WSL to 21 matches and move top of the table in the process.

Leicester have enjoyed an equally impressive start to 2023/24, with their 1-1 draw at Manchester United meaning they second ahead of this weekend’s showdown, level on points with City but with an inferior goal difference.

          Previous meeting

City extended our unbeaten WSL run to 10 matches with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Leicester in February 2023.

Second half goals from Shaw and Chloe Kelly were enough to seal the points, in spite of an inspired display from Foxes stopper Janina Leitzig.
