Andrée Jeglertz preview

The boss confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Brazil international Kerolin will still be unavailable for our clash with the Reds.

Jeglertz also said that Lauren Hemp will not be ready for selection and Rebecca Knaak ‘probably isn’t there either.’

Talking about the German defender’s recovery he said, “it’s about taking it slowly and not rushing it. I think she’s on her way back but we don’t push it or force it so we take it almost from week to week or day to day. She’s on her way but we’ll take it easy.”

OPPOSING MANAGER: GARETH TAYLOR

This weekend’s meeting between Liverpool and City will see the Blues reunited with former head coach, Gareth Taylor who took the Reds’ reins this summer.

A striker in his playing days, he enjoyed a productive spell with the Club between 1998 and 2001 where he helped us to the iconic 1999 Play-Off final success over Gillingham.

Taylor then returned to City as a coach in 2011 and in the summer of 2017 was appointed City’s academy manager.

Having previously overseen the Club’s Under-16s, he then led City’s Under-18s for three seasons, helping to develop the fledgling careers of many young players and guiding the team to successive Premier League U18 Cup victories in 2019 and 2020.

The former Wales international was then appointed as City Women’s head coach in May 2020 before presiding over nearly five years at the helm, winning the 2020 FA Cup and 2022 League Cup.

Across the 2023/24 WSL campaign, he guided us to our joint-highest ever points tally in the division, but we narrowly missed out on the title on goal difference.

He then departed the Club in March 2025 before being appointed as Liverpool’s head coach this summer.

ONES TO WATCH

Although Liverpool are still in search of their first WSL points of the season, there squad is packed with quality aplenty after a summer of change.

With last season’s star player Olivia Smith departing for Arsenal, Cornelia Kapocs has been a constant threat on the flanks for the Reds, netting their first goal of the season.

Meanwhile, Marie Hobinger has started three of their league assignments so far and has often been the main source of creativity from central midfield.

Then, in defence, the mixture of experience and potential in duo Gemma Bonner and Jenna Clark at centre-back will provide a tough assignment for our forward line to penetrate at Anfield on Sunday.

PREVIOUS MEETING

City last faced Liverpool in February at the Joie Stadium where Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw’s brace before goals from Jill Roord and Gracie Prior helped us to a 4-0 win last season.

In the reverse fixture at Anfield in October 2024, Shaw scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner after equalising in the second half as we came from a goal down to win 2-1.

LAST TIME OUT

Jeglertz’s side recorded a euphoric 3-2 win over Arsenal in our previous assignment in what proved to be an enthralling WSL clash.

The Blues led twice in the contest with the Gunners pegging us back each time before Iman Beney scored her first for the Club in the 88th minute which restored our advantage as we held on for three precious points.
