Previous World Cup performances
Coombs impressively earned her first England cap during their 2015 China Cup campaign - making her bow in a 2-1 defeat to the host nation.
The versatile midfielder would make one more appearance at the tournament, which unfortunately proved to be her last for eight years, despite being named in a 2020 training camp.
However, her impressive form in 2022/23 ignited an international revival, with Coombs gaining minutes in two Arnold Clark Cup fixtures as England went on to win the competition.
Sarina Wiegman also named the midfielder in the Finalissima squad that beat Brazil on penalties at Wembley Stadium in April.
Player profile
Coombs’ wealth of experience has helped guide a young midfield trio of Yui Hasegawa, Julie Blakstad and Filippa Angeldahl who have looked unified and fluent throughout City’s 2022/23 campaign.
And her versatility perfectly accompanied her wisdom.
In her 28 Women’s Super League appearances last season, Coombs has been a reliable figure for Gareth Taylor in making vital interceptions, switching play and maintaining possession to name a few of her key attributes.
Adding to her artillery, she scored vital goals for City in our 14-league game unbeaten run, including the sublime header in our 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
Deployed at the heart of our engine room since 2019, her dedication and hard work over the past four years has reaped rewards, winning the FA Cup and Conti Cup before earning her first international recall earlier this year.
