GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW

Gareth Taylor says City are close to full strength ahead of Sunday’s WSL clash with Bristol City.

Alex Greenwood and Lauren Hemp are both back in contention having served their respective one-match bans in Wednesday’s 2-1 Continental Cup win over Everton.

Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw made her first start of the season in midweek after recovering from injury on international duty, firing home the second of those goals on Merseyside.

Demi Stokes remains sidelined but is nearing a return, while Leila Ouahabi is absent for one more fixture after seeing red against West Ham United.

“We’ve recovered after Wednesday’s game against Everton,” the boss explained ahead of Bristol City’s visit on Sunday.

“We obviously now recover in terms of players available with Alex and Lauren. They come back.

“Leila is one more game and Demi is not quite ready but is getting closer. I know I keep saying that but it’s a complicated injury to her knee. She’s really close to being back out on the pitch.

“She’s an important player with her experience. In terms of availability it’s looking pretty strong.

“Lauren’s nursing a slight shoulder complaint but is in a good place.

“It’s good to get a couple of options back but the fact we had three players unavailable for Everton due to suspension but could make nine changes shows the strength of the group.”

PREVIOUS MEETING

Following Bristol City’s two-season spell in the Women’s Championship, this weekend’s clash with Lauren Hemp’s former club will be the first time the two teams have met in the WSL since March 2021.

Caroline Weir, Ellen White and Sam Mewis had a goal-a-piece in our 3-0 away win over Bristol.

More recently, our emphatic 8-1 win over Bristol in the fifth round of the FA Cup in February 2023 was one of the Club’s highest ever wins as Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw scored four goals in a memorable evening at the Robins High Performance Centre.

LAST TIME OUT

City’s unbeaten run so far in the 2023/24 season continued following our 2-1 win over Everton in the Continental Cup on Wednesday evening.

Goals from Jess Park and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw gave us a deserved victory in Merseyside despite Everton’s best efforts to draw the game level in the closing stages.
