As we countdown to the first ball being kicked on Thursday 20 July, our player previews continue with one of the most exciting talents in world football.

City have 14 representatives at the upcoming prestigious competition, stretching across seven nations in either confirmed or provisional squads.

And next up is the Matildas’ rising star…

CITY CAREER SO FAR

Competitive debut: 18 August 2022

Appearances: 22

PREVIOUS WORLD CUP PERFORMANCES

Since making her senior Australia debut in July 2018, Fowler has been a consistent member of their senior set-up.

This included impressively being named in the Matildas’ squad for the 2019 World Cup in France at just 16-years-old.

However, she is still waiting to make her bow in the sparkling showepiece after being named among the substitutes in her nations final group game (a 4-1 win over Jamaica) and their Round of 16 defeat to Norway.

This, though, no doubt served as an excellent education for the then teenage striker as she has now played a total of 24 for her nation and scored seven goals.

PLAYER PROFILE

Fowler was one of seven new signings at the Academy Stadium last summer and made superb progress during her maiden season in Manchester.

The 20-year-old made 22 appearances in all competitions and showed her versatility by leading the line and also slotting into midfield on occasion.

Her first two goals for the Club arrived in a 6-0 Continental Cup success over Blackburn Rovers in October 2022 where her all round display showed exactly why Gareth Taylor swooped for her signature.

The Australia international ended the season with five goals and three assists in what was certainly a strong and encouraging term in sky blue.

Quick with a clinical eye for goal, Fowler is set to become an influential figure for her nation this summer and for City throughout next season.
