City and Manchester United lock horns this weekend in the latest Barclays Women’s Super League heavyweight battle between the two cross-city rivals.

Andrée Jeglertz’s side visit Old Trafford on Saturday 28 March, with kick-off scheduled for 13:30 (UK)

The fixture sees the division’s top two collide with the Blues at the top of the table, eight points clear of Marc Skinner’s team and chasing the title with four top-flight matches remaining.

It also represents City’s third outing at the stadium with out first coming in the 2023/24 campaign.

Here’s the tale of the tape across our past two trips to Manchester United in the WSL…

NEW GROUND

By winning 3-1 in November 2023, City became the first team to beat Skinner’s side at Old Trafford in all competitions.

On that occasion, the Blues came from a goal down to prevail thanks to first-half goals from Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw extended our lead shortly after the break.

Jeglertz’s team also enter Saturday’s fixture unbeaten at the stadium having drawn 2-2 last season as an injury-hit squad earned a battling point.

GOALS GALORE

Both WSL matches at Old Trafford have produced four goals with the 3-1 win for City followed by last term’s 2-2 draw.

Remarkably, though, each of those strikes have been scored by eight different scorers.

For the Blues, Roord, Hemp and Shaw netted in the first WSL meeting there before defenders Laia Aleixandri and Rebecca Knaak were on the scoresheet in the previous Old Trafford meeting.

FINAL THIRD

City lead the way when it comes to chances created across the two Manchester derbies at Old Trafford.

Individually, Alex Greenwood and Hemp are at the top of the opportunities architected chart with both of the Blues’ players producing four each after 180 minutes.

Chloe Kelly also created four chances in the 3-1 victory in 2023/24.

ON THE BALL

Across City’s two outings at Old Trafford, we’ve completed a strong 18 dribbles in the victory and draw.

Leading the way across the metric among the Blues’ ranks is Kerolin who recorded six completed dribbles during the 2-2 last term in what was her first taste of a Manchester derby.

Equal to our skilful winger’s total is fellow Brazilian teammate and Manchester United forward, Geyse.

PASS MASTERS

Crucial to both of City’s past results at Old Trafford has been our ability to retain the ball and carve open United with intricate, decisive passes.

This was certainly on show during the 3-1 success in 2023, where our first-half goals from Roord and Hemp were resultant on a well-orchestrated Blues move.

In our first success there, we produced a strong pass accuracy of 74.3% before we bettered this tally the following season, recording a percentage of 78.6%.

Sitting in the top three of pass accuracy among those who played in both matches, City’s former centre-back Alanna Kennedy completed 45 of her 49 attempts.

Meanwhile, 91.1% of Gracie Prior’s attempts found a teammate in the 2-2 draw.

IN THE BOOK

With each passing season, Manchester derbies have grown in ferocity and intensity as the rivalry develops.

This has seen City produce a combined 42 tackles in the past two away WSL matches at Skinner’s side while also winning a total of 118 duels.

As the fixture reaches fever pitch, the Blues have collected four cards across our two Old Trafford trips, with Alex Greenwood receiving bookings in both.

United’s Aoife Mannion received two yellows in last term’s draw and was sent off with 20 minutes remaining.
